Dear Friends and Family,
I would like to write you with an exciting story but unfortunately I don’t have one. In fact, I really don’t have much to say at al. I’m just doing all of th normal stuff us PCVs do, if there is anything normal that we do. I’ll try to write something so at least I won’t feel I wasted a stamp.
I just got back from P-au-P on Thursday. I went to make a few corrections on our bike order and to place an order with another company for some tool dits and spare parts. I was also there to pick up a trainee from the new group. We had three trainees come out and visit us in the Grand’Anse. It was a pretty tame weekend but I think the trainees were generally grateful for that since training is so hectic. One fun thing we did do is roast marshmellows with a family down the street. The family really enjoyed it and we ate the whole of a huge bag I had brought from P-au-P.
Brian, the trainee who had visited me went back to P-au-P on Monday. Now I have two other volunteers [Anh and Jakes] from the Grand ‘Anse visiting me. It’s only the second time I’ve had volunteers visit my community so I am enjoying the company. I think we are going to make some popcorn tonight and take it down the street to share with my family.
Right now it doesn’t seem like I’m in my site very much. Every month I spend about a week in either P-au-P or at another volunteer’s site. This month I spent 3 days in Dame Marie, 3 days in P-au-P and 2 days in Jeremie. At the end of the month I am returning to Saint Marc to attend an animal health training session and help with training for the new group. I will be here for most of October but I will be in P-au-P for a week at the end of October and the beginning of November for my mid-service medical exam. Then at the end of November I will be in P-au-P for about 5 days for a disaster preparedness workshop. Then, in December I might be coming home for Christmas and maybe New Year’s. That depends on whether or not I can find a ticket for a reasonable price. Anyway, the point of all of this is that I am doing a lot of traveling and spend a good deal of time out of my site. I think that is a good thing though because I do get bored here and there is always some uncertainty with traveling in Haiti which makes life a little more exciting.
So that is what will be going on in my near future. I am going to stop here because I really don’t have much to write and I have to get this letter out – I’m sending film along with it. I hope you are enjoying the fall weather. Take care.
Mason
P.S. Dad,
I need more bulbs for my mini Maglite. I also need another battery for my camera – CR2 Lithium.
